LIFE BEFORE SOCIAL MEDIA & RATCHET TV

The latter I must admit that I thoroughly enjoy watching LOL: everything from Love & Hip Hop to Black Ink to Ex on the beach. The incredibly bad behaviour, the colorful language, the barely there attire and the drunken tirades all make for very entertaining TV but sometimes I wonder what the heck we were watching before? Oh yea...Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Martin, wholesome comedy...hahaha..

As for the former, a lot of it I'm still trying to figure out but every time I feel like I've caught up on all of it, someone else decides that we need yet another App that helps us connect with our friends even more or one extra filter to enhance our features for others to swoon over. Honestly, it's all very dizzying and often leaves me asking the question, what was life like before social media? Oh yea...actually talking to our friends on the phone and enjoying time with them and family...all seems so ancient now..LOL

These days our phones aren't for talking to those we love anymore, they are for Snapchatting, Instagramming and Facebooking. Plus there is so much ratchet tv competing fiercely for viewership with all the abc, nbc, usa and Netflix shows. Some days I'm recording 4 - 5 different shows because I'm completely hooked on all the drama in the lives of other people. I used to enjoy reading and writing back in the day but then ever since Youtube became a thing, a lot of us just prefer to watch people talk instead and develop instant A.D.D when it comes to reading.

Part of the reason I finally decided to start blogging was to retrace my steps back to what I enjoyed doing and slowly try to wean myself off all these addictive shows and social media images I look at all day long. I miss the days when you could just go out with your friends and family and enjoy each- other's company instead of being so preoccupied with ' taking pics for the gram' because for some odd reason, we all want to see what you are eating and drinking. I say all this not to act like I don't have any social media or appreciate all the things it has allowed us be able to do but other than my Instagram, I have no other social media handles. It's a little too much for me at the moment.

In 2018, I'm making it a point to seek out more blogs and bloggers and just spend time reading content. I enjoy looking at pretty pictures as much as the next person does but I'm giving a bit more time and attention to reading, educating myself on topics I'm interested in and writing/blogging about them in ways I can relate.

Are you a social media junkie or have you been sucked into the ratchet tv world like me? I'm challenging you to take a day or 2 or 3 to reconnect with some of the things you enjoyed doing before you got so distracted by selfies and hashtags.

Thanks for visiting and reading....

Love Always
