If your boo is anything like mine, he/she is not big on valentine's day and sees no reasons why you should celebrate. They, like many others these days feel like expressing your love for a significant other or any special person in your life should be an everyday thing and not something reserved for a special day.

While I do not disagree with this, taking time to celebrate Valentine's day in no way suggests that your expressions of love disappear throughout the rest of the year. If anything, Valentine's is the one day where we go the extra mile to show just how much we love and appreciate those special to us. We take them out, we buy them gifts, we treat them to something they enjoy and we do this to let the rest of the world know that these people indeed are deserving of a special day. To me, its like Veterans Day, MLK Day or even World Sibling Day. We certainly love and appreciate these people everyday for what they mean but we set aside a day to honor them publicly because they deserve it. What's so wrong with that huh?

With that said, here are my 3 reasons why I think Valentine's Day should be celebrated in your relationship:

1. Love Is Always Worth Celebrating - Whether or not you choose to acknowledge the christian or roman histories of this day, love is always worth celebrating especially in today's world where senseless and meaningless violence seems to be the order of the day. We all enjoy a great love story and now more than ever where people are becoming cynical about the whole idea of true love existing between two people, valentine's day provides the opportunity to show that love still exists in this dark cruel world. That 2 people can still love each other truly and painlessly, are growing old together because of that love and can remain unaffected by the lovelessness around them is worth celebrating in my opinion.

2. Love Does Not & Should Not Have To Cost A Thing -  JLO comes to mind when I write this but we know I'm not referring to her year 2000 hit song, not really anyway. In a relationship, we all know that it's the little things we do for each other that mean the most. All we want from our partners is to feel like they really know us and those things that make us truly happy. Be fancy if you want/can afford and go all out if you want but it's not something that's required for valentine's day. Buying my favorite Starbucks coffee or putting things back in their exact positions throughout the day because you recognize my OCD is good enough for me. LOL! That to me is love baby...😍

3. You Are Reminded To Prioritize Each-Other - As implied, Valentine's Day is a good reminder to prioritize our significant other. If we are being truthful, the hustle and bustle of everyday life can be so overwhelming that by the end of the day, all we want to do is curl up in bed and hope the world disappears if just for a few hours. February 14 is one day we look forward to and plan towards for that brief oh so sweet momentary escape from it all with our baes and boos. You may claim not to care but when your man or girl puts in that extra effort for you, you love it!

After trying my best to explain all this to bae, I think he finally gets a little bit why we should celebrate. If I'm being honest, I'm not expecting anything 'over the top' but I do appreciate that he is going to mark the day in his own little way with me.

How will you be celebrating your Valentine's Day? With a boo, with your girls or by yourself? Comment below but however you choose to celebrate or not at all, I hope you have a love filled day!

Always Love 💓💓
