COPING IN THESE CONDITIONS: A BROKE GIRL'S GUIDE TO SELF CARE

This past week in Texas has been complete madness! The weather conditions we have experienced in the last couple of days have been so extreme that folks had to go without power and hot water. The roads were hazardous from all the snow and icy conditions that it was another shelter in place scenario all over again.

If you have been watching the news, then you know all about what we have been experiencing here if you live elsewhere within or outside the U.S so I won't bore with any more of what you already know. However many people, myself included, needed to find ways to cope with the cold, snow and everyone being forced to stay home without having a mental breakdown.

It was all fun and games at first when this all started for me especially since I had never really experienced non stop snow for days since being here. I was out taking pictures and being a local girl in Texas until it got colder and the snow went from pretty to pretty dangerous. It was then I had to bust out my broke girl's guide to self care for coping in these conditions.

1. YOUTUBE

YouTube became even more of a dear friend than it already is as I had no choice than to binge watch videos from all my favorites and then discover some new creators whose contents have kept me thoroughly entertained and distracted from the cold.

2. NETFLIX

Thankfully, the power didn't go out where I live so whenever I take a break from watching YouTube, I switch over to Netflix to see what's new. I haven't quite gotten on the Bridgerton bandwagon but there have been plenty more series and movies keeping me booked and busy. LOL!

3. JOURNALING

In order to cope in these conditions, my journaling and quiet time have definitely been my most preferred self care routine everyday. Even amidst all of the distraction of a full house, writing keeps me centered and I have more than over indulged myself in it.

4. LISTENING TO MY PLAYLIST

Like most people, I have several playlists I like to listen to depending on my mood and outside of my Gospel playlist, you will mostly always find me listening to some Naija hits or old school jams. I'm an 80s baby so a lot of the songs I listen to come from that era in addition to the 90s and early 2000s.

This has been my broke girl's guide to self care with coping in these conditions so if you have been struggling with taking care of your mental wellness because you don't have the cash to splurge on exotic candles, fancy wines and bubble baths, do yourself a favor and go the inexpensive route with my broke girl's guide to your self care.

Excess Love,
