Whether it's now, later or at some point in the past. we have all experienced a waiting season. Waiting is not something that comes naturally to many folks, and I mean me too, but it is something we all have to do irrespective of whether we like to or not.
Waiting on God is probably one thing we all struggle with because as humans we tend to prefer instant gratification or immediate answers to prayers over having to wait to receive. I'm sure by now we can all testify that God does not work on our timeline so waiting is inevitable. There are so many scriptures in the Bible that encourage or implore us to wait like Romans 8:23-25, James 5:7-8, Psalm 145: 15-16 to mention a few.
In order to know how to wait on God for a testimony, we must first understand why waiting is important and what God may be trying to teach us in that season. It can be difficult to see past the situation because of fear, worry or anxiety but I am slowly learning that there is always a purpose for every waiting season. I am currently in one of these seasons and I can tell you firsthand that it is a challenge to wait without worrying but worrying has never really solved anything for me in the past so rather than focus on that, I am through the help of the Holy Spirit learning what God is trying to do with me in this time. For me, it's been about building my strength and character because I have a tendency to revert back to trying to solve things my own way or with my own strength and intelligence. In other words, I get real inconsistent with God (Proverbs 3:5-6). When I've done this in the past, 1 of 2 things always happens:
1. I get no resolution to the problem/situation at all OR
2. I manipulate things to happen my way but it is usually short-lived with a possibility of making the situation or problem worse than it initially was.
Either way, I short circuit my testimony when I interfere in this way because what I'm indirectly telling God is that I do not trust Him to come through for me or that I simply can't wait for His timeline because the situation is urgent as if He didn't know that already.
So how does one then wait on God for a testimony? When you know there is a major test or exam coming up that you must pass before being elevated to the next level, you don't just show up on the day of the paper to write the test, you need to have been preparing before-hand. It's in the same way that we must prepare in our wait on God for a testimony. This is what I have been learning are the ways to do so:
1. Pray Ceaselessly - 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
2. Praise & Worship God - Psalm 22: 3-5, Psalm 9: 1-5
3. Regular Fasting - Matthew 6:16-18, Ezra 8: 23
Doing these 3 things with the help of the Holy Spirit and a pure heart are the keys to unlocking God's favor and mercy over the situation. I am going a step further in my case by remembering all the times in the past when God has given me victory over a situation I thought was impossible and give Him thanks for it. I confess the dimensions of God that I want to see happen so if I am looking for God's favor, that's what I consistently confess until the situation changes. If you are experiencing a season where you are waiting on God for your testimony/testimonies, keep praying, praising, worshipping and fasting till things change. When your testimonies come, ALWAYS give back the glory to God and remain in an atmosphere of praise and prayer. May God answer all our petitions in accordance to His will, AMEN.
Excess Love,
Ibogirl
