HOW TO MAKE THESE 4 SUMMER STAPLES FALL APPROPRIATE

In just a matter of weeks, the seasons will once again change and Fall will be upon us. By now it's no secret that this is my favorite season and one of the reasons why is because I can still wear my colorful summer pieces even though it's a little chillier and make them appropriate for Fall.

Mixing darker colors with summer brights, layering pieces with jackets or coats, pulling out the boots and chunky sneakers in place of the sandals and slippers make Fall the perfect style season for me. Today's post aims to show how to make 4 Summer staples Fall appropriate so if that's something you are interested in seeing, keep on scrolling.

The 4 Summer staple pieces that have been on rotation in my wardrobe include:

- Summer Shorts

- Summer Plaid Dresses

- The Pleated Skirt

- Tube Dresses

Summer Shorts are a given in the season owing to the exposure it gives our legs, allowing what summer breeze there is caress the skin to eliminate sweat and discomfort. Pastel pink has been a fun color for the summer but to make it appropriate for the Fall, I styled these Walmart shorts with over the knee boots, a black turtle neck sweater and finished off with a silk head scarf.

Clearly I was channeling something or someplace French when I put this look together. My legs, ears and arms always get cold in the Fall and Winter months hence the choice to keep them covered with pieces that would certainly keep me warm.

You can choose to go a step further with this look and layer with a leather jacket, coat or wind breaker if you are the type that loves to layer multiple pieces. This is how I would rock the look and could rotate different Summer shorts because black of course goes with everything.

In keeping with the bright colors of the Summer, I paired this yellow plaid mini dress with the same black turtle neck sweater, black leggings and black booties. This again is very reminiscent of  French Girl Chic and I love it.

Keeping my accessories minimal with just a headband and basic jewelry, allows this look maintain its chic aesthetic. A long teddy coat would be a final great layering piece if you plan on being outdoors for a long time.

This would be the perfect outdoor brunch look with girlfriends or even shopping at the mall because like it or not, its practically Christmas at this point so you may as well start getting some early shopping done.

You may recall in my what to wear when you have nothing to wear post that I featured this pleated skirt and paired it with a graphic white t-shirt. This though, is how I would transition this Summer staple to make it Fall appropriate. Some chunky jordans, a loosely fitted turtleneck sweater and hat are the exact pieces to style with this skirt.

I saw a similar look on Instagram and thought it looked really stylish. I figured I would try to recreate it with what I had in my closet and sure enough, it came out looking just as good as I saw it on the girl who styled it on IG.

If you are not a fan of the chunky sneaker trend, you can interchange that with knee high boots or combat boots. I plan on wearing this look out to dinner in a hotel restaurant just because I feel like it gives off that kind of vibe to me. Where would you wear this to? Comment below.

Last but certainly not least on making a Summer staple piece Fall appropriate is this colorful tube dress that I've owned for years now. I opted to style it with a crew neck sweater and flat booties to tone down the myriad of colors that the dress has going on.

I could have gone with another solid color sweater like purple or mustard yellow but that would have been a bit much for me for the Fall. A simple link chain necklace, 2 statement rings and stud earrings (invisible because of my wig) are the only pieces of jewelry outside my watch that I need for this look.

This for me is for sure a date night (or day) look that I would rock with confidence for an indoor or outdoor experience. I would drape a long structured coat over the outfit and finish the look off with a midi or large clutch purse.

Which look was your fave and how will you be dressing for Fall this year? If you had no idea before, I hope you got some style inspiration from today's post.

Excess Love,

Ibogirl
