THE CONSEQUENCES OF IDOLATRY & BREAKING THE YOKE

Idolatry is an issue whenever anything in a person's life takes priority over God. God frequently warns against Idolatry in the old testament so much so that in the 10 commandments, the first 2 take a direct stand against worshipping anything or anyone other than the Lord God Himself.

In Exodus 20:2-5 and again in Deuteronomy 5:7-8, we see God repeatedly warn the Israelites against idolatry with a consequence of "punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the 3rd and 4th generations..." This is one of the consequences of engaging in idol worship and clearly unless the yoke is broken, even our children up to the 4th generation will be punished.

Linked with the command to the Israelites not to serve other gods is another command to destroy all the idols and break their sacred stones to pieces (see Exodus 23: 24-25). When God alone is worshipped, "His blessing is upon our food and water. Sickness will be taken away from among us and none will miscarry or be barren..." If we read further down to the end of this passage, we see God tell the Israelites not to allow the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Jebusites and others live among them or make a covenant with them because they would cause them to sin against Him and the worship of their gods will be a snare to them. When we allow other people influence our worship of God to other things or people, we commit sin against Him and become trapped in their ways resulting in suffering the consequences of that.

Another consequence of idolatry that God makes clear is that those who engage in it will have no part in His kingdom (see 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

In the world today, idolatry exists and can be seen in various forms such as in false religions, satanism (which is the worship of satan or oneself), sorcery and spiritism. When people give themselves over to materialism and greed rather than trust in God, this is also regarded as Idolatry. Even when those who claim to be Christians believe they can experience the salvation of God and at the same time participate in the immoral practices of the world, their hearts are not fully with God and as already we know, we can not serve 2 masters at once. God's presence leaves us, He visits His wrath upon us up to the 4th generation of our children and are left at the mercy of Satan.

If Idolatry exists (or is known to have existed) in your family, there is an urgent need to break that yoke!

How?

Generations of idol worship in a family can be difficult to break because the roots are dug in deep. The spirits behind these idols are not to be taken lightly because unless they are consistently and prayerfully cast out in the name of Jesus, they will only return with more aggression and force (see Matthew 12:43-45).

1. Declare your absolute surrender to God: Surrender is the beginning of being set free (see John 8:36)

2. Resist and reject the yoke of every known and unknown covenant with idols through declaration and prayers drawing yourself closer to God (see James 4: 7-8).

3. Ask for God's mercy to open your eyes that they may see where you are/have been suffering the consequences of Idolatry (see 2 Corinthians 4:6 and 2 Corinthians 3:16-18).

4. Break the yoke by the Blood Of Jesus and declare that every generational curse of God on your forefathers, resulting from the sins of idolatry be broken and loosed in the name of Jesus (see Nahum 1:13 and Galatians 5:1)

5. Anoint Yourself with oil and again declare that you are now free in the name of Jesus (see 1 Peter 2:9).

Let us be more watchful and careful not to make anything an idol over God in our lives. It is evident that the consequences of idolatry are better imagined than experienced both from the Lord's punishment and the devastating effects idol worship has on our lives. God is jealous over you, your heart and your worship so let it be reserved for Him alone.

And with that, we have come to the end of our 7 day fasting and prayer against idolatry. Thank you for participating and I hope that this has tremendously blessed you and opened all our eyes to the modern day idols that try to entrap us.

Now I'm taking my 1-2 month Summer hiatus from blogging and will God willing see you guys back here in early August. Have yourselves a blessed and happy Summer holiday.
