A BROKE GIRL'S GUIDE TO SELF CARE IN 2022

Over the years self care has become larger than life with the industry itself becoming a vast $450 billion market. In 2022, research shows that self care aka wellness, is now a $4.2 trillion global industry and it continues to grow at an astronomical rate. As overall trends in health and wellness continue to expand, the topic of self care is everywhere.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "self care is important because it can help promote health, prevent disease and help people better cope with illness".

Engaging in a self care routine has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety and depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration and anger, increase happiness, improve energy and more. Needless to say that self care is a THING and we all need to find routines that help us do all of the things listed above.

Self care doesn't have to involve spending a ton of money. As a matter of fact, there are several at home things you can do to help reduce stress levels and improve your energy if you are a broke girl like me. Some things I started including in my self care routine last year that cost me zero dollars include giving myself a facial and running a bath. I often do these 2 things simultaneously so while I sit and soak in a warm bath, I apply my favorite clay mask, light a fragranced candle and simply decompress for the next 20-30 minutes. I can't tell you what wonders this does for my mind and creativity! You should try it sometime.

I've also learned to give myself manicures and pedicures at home. I play with different colors of nail polish and allow myself actually enjoy the process but my most favorite thing to do on self care days is make myself a mocktail. There are so many easy recipes I have found on Pinterest that have made their way into my mason jar and will continue to do so. I reserve these homemade mocktails for movie nights in that go along with all the snacks I love to indulge in.

The other day I decided I was going to start making myself a small charcuterie board filled with meats, fruits and crackers (because I don't see myself eating blocks of cheese ever) as I Netflix n Chill. It's on the agenda for my next self care day!

So, there it is folks, my broke girl's guide to self care in 2022!
