Last weekend I made the decision to get baptized at 42 years old and it felt awesome. It was awesome because this was my conscious decision to make a public declaration for Jesus and also because my sister did me the honor of baptizing me.
It has been on my heart for a while now to get baptized but needed to be at the place where I understood fully what I was doing and to find a bible based church to do it at. Needless to say I found a great church home in Chase Oaks and got baptized this past Sunday. I had family and new friends in attendance which made it that much more special to me.
I was familiar with the baptism of Christ in the Bible but needed to give the Holy Spirit the chance to give me full understanding of why this was so important and what the point of baptism is. As usual, Pastor Mike Todd explained the point of baptism so simply with culture-familiar language but making it make so much sense. He said and I'm paraphrasing here that 'baptism was our way of finally publicly claiming Jesus as our Lord and no longer as just our secret side chic Savior'. Baptism tells the world that we belong to Jesus and will live the rest of our lives on earth being His representatives to our generation and the next.
Jesus' baptism is sanctioned by God's acknowledgement and blessing as 'His son in whom He is well pleased' which is quickly followed with Him being led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the Devil. This is a major point to note after getting baptized which is that the enemy gets really hot and bothered about losing yet another soul and life to Jesus. Because of this, he goes heavy on the attack against us the same way he went in on Jesus. Everyone who has gotten baptized has a similar story about how hard things seemed to get for them afterwards so I expect no less for myself but by the grace of God, I'm ready for anything he throws at me.
Have you been baptized yet? I know many of us were baptized as babies or toddlers but our parents made that decision for us. It's important that we make that choice for ourselves as believers because God asks us to and because it tells the world that we do not belong to it but to the household of God the Father.
XOXO
